In addition to new films like Blade, the studio announced its upcoming slate of Marvel TV series, including the sitcom-inspired WandaVision. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bethany reprised their roles from the Avengers films, playing the titular Wanda Maxim off and Vision, respectively.

Additional cast members include Kathryn Hahn as “nosey neighbor” Agnes and Hannah Paris as a grownup Monica Ram beau. The studio moved this date up because it was the Disney+ MCU series closest to completion when the pandemic struck.

And while it was an adjustment for all to adapt to coronavirus-safe protocols, the Vision actor explained how great it was to have the chance to complete their work. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bethany agree it was strange returning to the pandemic-proofed set of Marvel Studios series WandaVision, which hit the pause button before it managed to complete filming without a single positive COVID-19 test.

The Kevin Face -produced WandaVision launches Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it starts streaming on Disney+ on January 15, 2021. Note: If you purchase one of the awesome, independently chosen products featured here, we may earn a small commission from the retailer.

The studio moved this date up because it was the Disney+ MCU series closest to completion when the pandemic struck. After six months away, Bethany, Olsen, and the WandaVision crew resumed filming, finishing up in November 2020.

And while it was an adjustment for all to adapt to coronavirus-safe protocols, the Vision actor explained how great it was to have the chance to complete their work. “I did love the feeling of when we came back and shot exteriors for Episode 2,” Bethany told BuzzFeed.

The series centers on Wanda Maxim off and Vision, placing the two Avengers characters in a period sitcom setting. Marvel Studios | Disney+ WandaVision was filmed primarily in Atlanta, Georgia while Burbank and Los Angeles in California also served as locations.

Marvel Studios | Disney+ It is clear from the get-go that WandaVision takes inspiration from the television sitcoms of old, beginning with the 1950s and working its way through several eras. Episode 1 for example, which pays homage to The Dick Van Dyke Show, used 1950s era-appropriate camera lenses and lighting setups in order to give it the true 50s feel.

On top of that, episode 1 was even filmed in front of a live studio audience to give the actors some added pressure and the genuine feeling that they were performing in a 50s sitcom. Throughout the series, similar techniques can be found, including the use of a dialect coach to assist the actors in portraying characters from the show’s various time periods, to era-specific special effects and a cheesy-but-appropriate laugh track that hardens back to the likes of Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie.

But now it sounds like there is good news for WandaVision, as scooper Liz Hill has revealed (via Murphy's Multiverse) that the series has likely finished filming and that visual FX are finished, or at least close to do. WandaVision is one of the more anticipated projects coming to the streamer alongside Season 2 of The Mandalorian, with the expectation that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will see a lot of set up for future events in the Disney+ show.

But there are also theories that WandaVision could set up elements for Young Avengers, Captain Marvel 2, and the rumored Secret Invasion series. With the entire Phase 4 slate delayed, we've been in desperate need of some good news about the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while.

That's a job which can be done remotely, so we have no reason to expect that WandaVision will be unable to meet its planned December premiere date. The only reason that could change is because Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been pushed into 2022, and Marvel Studios may not want there to be such a big gap between the TV series and movie.

After all, it's been said that WandaVision will lead directly into the Sorcerer Supreme's next adventure, so Kevin Face and company might want the show to be a little fresher in people's minds. As for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, production in Prague was halted due to COVID-19, and it's still thought that a virus subplot needs to be removed as it's a little too similar to real-life events.

At the end of Marvel Studios' Comic-Con presentation last July, Kevin Face announced that Maheshtala Ali had been cast as Blade in the MCU. Ali has plenty of experience working on the small screen after starring in True Detective and Luke Cage, and the introduction of vampires to this shared world could be well suited to multiple episodes.

(and perhaps some other big names from the MCU) take center stage, this is a series with a lot of potential, and making the Skulls the leads could work too. After all, just imagine if we're taken through the last decade of this shared world following a character we've come to know and love, only for it to be revealed they were a Skull all along.

After all, it's hard to imagine her just falling back in love with Star-Lord when they cross paths again, and we now have a very different Zamora in the MCU who didn't go through the heroic transformation her counterpart did. Click on the right Reddit thread, and you'll see plenty of theories that Black Widow will set the stage for such a team-up, and while we'll be waiting until November to find out whether that's the case, it would be a good place to lay the groundwork.

A TV show about the Thunderbolts could head in any number of directions, making them villains posing as heroes or even Marvel's version of the Suicide Squad. It's no secret that Kevin Face is a big fan of both characters, so fleshing them out in a Disney+ series before they eventually clash with Marvel's First Family is something you have to imagine he would jump at the chance to do.

Delving into the origin stories of Galactic and his Herald will ensure they're both properly developed by the time they arrive at Earth, and the show could even lead directly into that moment. Ryan Reynolds has talked a lot recently about his hopes to reprise the role of Deadpool (in the MCU this time, though), and it's bound to happen given the Mere with the Mouth's popularity.

While he's by no means an A-List superhero, can you imagine how much fun it would be to follow an A-List celebrity who attempts to balance his life as a crime fighter? Plus, the way his origin story is tied to characters like Baron Zero, The Vision, and Executioner means that he would be a big part of the MCU from the start, and a worthy addition to this shared world.

Instead, a series revolving around the unhinged Robert Reynolds could really do the hero justice, especially by exploring his darker side as The Void. The problem with a movie is that the Superman comparisons will be inevitable from the start, but giving this character room to breathe in a series of his own means Marvel Studios can establish him as something completely different (who could bring an awful lot to the MCU moving forward).

This new venture was originally going to kick off with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but due to forces outside the studio's control, production was delayed, and that series won't come out until 2021 now. WandaVision, the superhero sitcom about Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bethany) settling into a more suburban life with a surreal twist, is scheduled to be the first Disney+ original series from Marvel Studios to come out.

Producer Dylan Bluff posted some (now deleted) photos to his Instagram, but not before they were picked up by various Marvel-centric outlets. Twitter user @BRMarvelNews collected screenshots of the post in which Bluff seems to confirm that production has wrapped on an unspecified project believed to be WandaVision.

Also, a HUGE shoutout to @kelseytfarrar for bringing me onboard the team and also running that set like A BOSS. We won't know for sure whether production has wrapped until Marvel Studios comes forward with more information, and while December 2020 is still slated for the show's release date, that could obviously change depending on how much post-production work is still needed.

However, if the WandaVision trailer is anything to go off of, the cast and crew finished a good deal before having to delay due to the pandemic. It's possible they just needed a little more to officially call it a day, but keep checking back with Cooper to hear more news about the show's production as it becomes available.
