What’s more, all profits from the parks and short breaks go back into the conservation work of our charity. So you can enjoy your stay, knowing that you are directly helping our conservation work.

We always make sure that the animals come first, from enclosure design to diet, no expense is spared. We grow our own herbs and vegetables and source our meat from trustworthy suppliers.

Fantastic day out...in a beautiful location looking out to sea over the Dentist downs. A special thank you to our guide Stephen for a magical safari to see the giraffe family.

Lots of walking but do provide push chairs for families with young children which is brilliant. Superb animals in 'natural' surroundings, happy and knowledgeable staff always helpful, great Lodge accommodation and services ....we stayed over two nights as there were 600 acres to enjoy with a powered people buggy provided.

PortLympne Reserve, Lymph (NR The), Kent, United Kingdom, CT21 4PD This means that there is a substantial amount of walking and some very steep inclines to go up and down.

PortLympne also has a safari tour, taken on large army trucks. You get driven around the park, through rhino and past elephant paddocks and into a large game enclosure.

It costs an extra £5 for adults (can't remember the children's price). Its unique feature is a walk through lemur enclosure where you have the little chaps run around you.

Hewlett at the moment have fewer unique animals, but they do have 3 10-month-old tiger cubs right now (the ones at PortLympne are older) as well as a very young elephant.” My boyfriend was asking his sister & parents about this the other day to take my 2 boys to one of them.

Although that was a long time ago and, frankly, in both cases the victims (or at least their parents) were more to blame than the animals. And the view from the top of the hill down to Romney Marsh and the sea beyond is breathtaking.

Funnily enough, we used to walk a lot along the canals at the bottom of the hill and on a clear day you could hear the lions roaring but not see the voice. Heaven only knows what the non-locals thought if they were unaware there was a zoo nearby! Thanks for all that, it's really helped I think Hewlett for what we want then, (although it sounds like I'd personally like Port Lymph more). There's not much in it in the drive from where we are.

From blue-flag beaches to the best kid-friendly amusement parks, discuss great ideas for family days out and trips here. Hi, We are going to be in Kent for a short break and are looking at taking our son (nearly 5) to the Zoo, was wondering which one people had been to and which is most fun camp; the best value for money.

Our choices are Hewlett, PortLympne and Gingham Wildlife Park Any advice/comments would be appreciated as they all seem similarly rated on trip Advisor. Ideally we would like somewhere that has some kind of playground there, not bothered about lunch facilities as we will bring picnic.

Its not just look at each animal and move on at each enclosure there are interactive things for the children to do. Then there's boxes where children can put their hands in to see what the fur/skin feels like on some animals.

It is so interactive with a brilliant play area and a Thomas train too. Its not just look at each animal and move on at each enclosure there are interactive things for the children to do.

Hewlett and Port Lyme are both huge zoos with massive enclosures. This is fantastic for the animals, and they have successful breeding and reintroduction programs.

Even with the walk, and the lack of shelter, Hewlett gorilla family is amazing. Hewlett and Port Lyme are both huge zoos with massive enclosures.
