Last year was my first time I ever got to hunt with a tag in my pocket. I ended up harvesting a pretty decent half rack muleteer during Idaho's general season.

I am more looking to hunt the west side of the unit but east of the rec area looks good, as long as there aren't four wheelers buzzing up and down all day. I would probably give WA a hard pass on a general muleteer hunt....

Green gulch road is open during Oct and Nov for motor vehicles 48" in width and under. Not sure why, of all the places you hunt muleteer that one strikes your fancy, but good luck.

On technical terms they have higher success rates than most OTC states. Both the Blues proper or the Cascade offer some great experiences in terms of wild places.

You will be driving by or flying over a lot of huntable deer to get from PA to WA. Get a tag in WY, for example, and free up 3 days of your round trip drive.

People are sitting on their wallets and the WY deer draw is open through end of May. CO will have some leftovers for deer when people do not pay for the tag.

I'm also trying to figure out a unit for my first deer season this fall and I created a spreadsheet and there're 20 units on my list with much better harvest numbers and success rates. I wouldn't go past the WA/ID border looking for deer .28 bucks killed in that unit last year with a 20 hunting days/kill.

Unfortunately go hunt makes Washington a bit deceiving, gotta go old school with WA. Oh, on their website it said 31% success rate out of 104 hunters in modern firearms.

Even Washington’s website said 2018 there were 32 bucks harvested during modern firearm season alone, and that unit is a 3 point to a side or better, so I don’t know where you’re getting your facts but....... they’re wrong Oh, on their website it said 31% success rate out of 104 hunters in modern firearms.

If you are having difficulty deciding where to go, here is a list of the best places to hunt in the Evergreen State: This prime elk hunting area is located in the southeast Blue Mountains.

Sherman Creek Wildlife Area This 9,982 acres location holds giant populations of both whitetail and muleteer. You can find Sherman Creek in Ferry County, on the west side of Roosevelt Lake.

Pheasants are planted in the wildlife animal each year specifically for hunters, and turkey exists in significant amounts for anyone who wants to hunt birds. Big Valley Wildlife Unit Check out the timber to uncover great numbers of deer and black bears.

Grizzly bears are illegal to shoot in Washington. There are many reported black bear in this area with cinnamon and blonde fur.

Rattlesnake Slope Unit Plentiful numbers of checker, deer, and elk hide among these 3,366 acres. Huffaker Mountain and the rolling slopes directly surrounding it are wonderful spots to find black-tailed deer, white-tailed deer, and elk.

Pierce County Huntwashingtonstate.com declares that Pierce County offers, “A plethora of great hunting area ... there are deer and elk all throughout this unit.” Most of our hunts are for Muleteer, Whitetail, and Rocky Mountain Elk, but we do pursue the other mentioned species on request.

Hunts will feature well-outfitted base camps, ranch home or lodge-style accommodations. A number of hunts can be packaged with both pheasant and waterfowl shooting without additional travel, particularly now that Oregon and Washington have adjusted seasonal openings on upland to overlap with Big Game, mainly deer.

All hunts are 2 hunters per guide, 5 nights and 4 days unless specified otherwise. The hunts that take place in Washington state are Washington Units:Ritzville (282), Prescott (149), Almost (142), Harrington(136), Breeze(272) East Flanagan (204) and Sherman (101).

The ground we hunt includes thousands of acres of irrigated land, incredible grassland, CRP, open range, great expanses of ranch land to hunt. Over the counter tags, great hunting, many deer in this vast area of varied terrain and ground cover.

Please note that because of publishing lead time, some dates are tentative. 60% deposit is required to book a hunt + Tags and License fees.

Three Peaks Outfitters has both guided hunt and drop camp options that will get you into the true back country. Get away from the crowds and get a chance to actually hunt for game with limited pressure from other hunters.

This is a very challenging hunt with the classic high terrain big bucks like to live in. In October, we switch gears and move into muzzle loader and modern firearm seasons.

These hunts take place in both the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area and the Tearaway, both of which are noted for quality deer. Rocky Mountain Elk were introduced into the CLE Elm area in the 1920s from the Yellowstone herd in Wyoming.

These are special draw hunts for branch antlered bulls and the areas we guide in are the Peaches Ridge and Observatory Units. Each of these areas has a specific hunt number associated with the weapon used; please call if you have questions on what to put in for.

We encourage hunters to enter the draws and build their preference points and, when you get drawn for that coveted tag, give us a call. On the day you choose we return and pack you, your gear, and harvested animal (if successful) out at no additional charge.

Included is: 12'x14' wall tent, wood stove, axe, shovel, scabbard(s), and lantern with propane. I know overall that the hunting compared to a lot of other states is not great, but I am sitting on 20 non res points.

It's pretty easy to figure out which units offer the best trophy potential and have limited tags (and corresponding tough draw odds). I can't give you a bead on Oregon since I know little about that state.

Season dates, amount of public land, and terrain. Where ever you decide you need to spend a good amount of time scouting.

Oregon still has some good bucks, but a guy has to scout and hunt hard on public land to find/kill them. Whoever thought your question was offensive should grow a pair.

This widely distributed cervix has considerable interest and is of significant importance to the people of Washington. There are more than 120,000 state-licensed deer hunters in Washington, of which a large portion hunts muleteer, harvesting between 9,500 and 14,000 annually.

The purpose of this plan is to provide background information on the natural history, biology, and status of muleteer herds in Washington State, describe current management issues, and establish objectives and strategies to guide future management. The over-arching goals of this muleteer plan are: 1) Preserve, protect, perpetuate, and manage deer and their habitat to ensure healthy, productive populations; 2) Manage deer for a variety of recreational, educational, and aesthetic purposes including hunting, scientific study, cultural, subsistence, and ceremonial uses by Native Americans, wildlife viewing, and photography; and 3) Manage statewide deer populations for a sustainable annual harvest.

Hunting seasons are now designed to provide equitable opportunities to all user groups (i.e., modern firearm, muzzle loader, and archery). GMU boundaries were designed to assist with management, and were drawn using identifiable physical features such as roads and rivers, to help hunters and law enforcement interpret regulations.

Each DMZ is a grouping of Gus based upon a combination of local knowledge, physiographic province and bioregion. These Gus share common muleteer populations, and vegetative and geographic characteristics, but are not limited by any county or other administrative boundary.

Management is most effective when knowledge of current population trajectory, densities, age structures, herd boundaries, survival, and mortality patterns are readily available, along with hunter harvest and effort data, but few of these metrics are available for use by deer managers because of the expense in obtaining such extensive data sets with adequate sample sizes over large areas. Current population monitoring efforts in eastern Washington vary according to the landscape and habitat structure.

The Department has strived to improve the quality of muleteer abundance estimates and trend indices. While there is room for improvement, surveys resulting in relatively high precision estimates are currently being conducted across portions of Washington's muleteer range.

But the Department will continue to develop, use, and refine aerial survey models where appropriate to produce unbiased abundance estimates. Specific muleteer population and habitat management objectives, problems, and strategies are identified in the following sections.

By 2021, develop new or refine existing survey designs for each of the seven MDM Zs to estimate population levels or trends, PRE- and/or post-hunt age and sex ratios, and/or spring fawn to adult ratios Within each DMZ, manage mule deer to ensure stable or increasing populations, as indicated by demographic indicators Adaptive manage (Stanley et al. 2005) to attempt to maintain the current level of mule deer hunting opportunity throughout the seven management zones By 2027, within each DMZ maintain or improve the quality of at least 10% of the important seasonal habitats that support mule deer populations Maintain or reduce the number of damage prevention permits or kill permits issued to minimize commercial crop damage caused by deer in MDM Zs over the period 2016 – 2021 By 2020, have long-term solutions or plans in place for at least three local communities dealing with urban mule deer populations causing nuisance or damage issues By 2018, increase the number of times mule deer are profiled in public outreach and engagement efforts to at least four per year Establish and promote public use of at least two mule deer viewing opportunity sites with informational kiosks by 2021 Raise public awareness about deer -vehicle collisions by hosting a town hall type meeting in each DMZ by 2023, discussing the selected problem areas described above Achieve 90% compliance of regulations during mule deer hunting season by 2018 Prevent illegal take of mule deer outside the hunting season and illegal commercialization of mule deer parts from increasing above the current level Increase funding for mule deer management and research by 10% by 2022 Integrate mule deer into the planned, multi-species predator-prey study by 2017 Achieving spending levels will be contingent upon availability of funds and creation of partnerships.
