In this 1,608 hectares (3,971 acres) of nature preserve developed with the Guelph Lake dam building in 1974, there is a lot of recreation land. There is a recently built concert area with a luxurious living roof in the lake's center on an island.

Sitting along the banks of the Speed River, Guelph is a small city that is located less than one hour west of Toronto. It is a beautiful city that is known for its limestone architecture, dynamic culture and high standard of living.

The bridge was built with timber in a 1800s style design and is part of the Royal Recreational Trail. The bridge is roughly 36.5 meters long and walking across it will result in some lovely scenery.

A few key items on display are John McCrae’s medals, his officer’s cap badge and a Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps button. Visit in the summer and enjoy special activities, like the Teddy Bear Picnic, Poppy Push and tea in the garden.

Wellington St. E. to the south, Norwich St. to the North, Norwich St. to the East and Dublin St. to the west are what bound Downtown Guelph. Within this area you will see limestone architecture, heritage buildings and boutique shops.

This Roman Catholic basilica is known to be one of the finest works of architect Joseph Connolly. It is a beautiful building that features decorative carving and stained-glass that was created by skilled craftsmen.

The limestone building is a National Historic Site that can be visited any day of the week. Photographs, furniture, decorative arts and toys are all part of the collection, most of which were donated by Guelph residents.

The children’s museum portion has interactive exhibits that teach the kid’s through playing. The 32 hectare conservation area is open year round and offers plenty of activities.

One of the biggest features of the conservation area is its massive glacial potholes, one of which is the largest in the world! It also has plenty of other unique geological features, like its extensive cave system and glacial bluffs that formed thousands of years ago.

In addition to Canadian art there is also some contemporary international artists showcased in the gallery collection of 9,000 pieces. Part of the Art Gallery of Guelph includes a sculpture park that should not be overlooked.

Vendors set up to sell homemade pies and bread, authentic Turkish desserts, fresh juice, Taiwanese dumplings and Ethiopian cuisine. The sanctuary sits on a tranquil piece of land that has become a safe haven for these animals.

Another great feature at the Emerald Lake Watermark is the massive quarry that boasts trampolines, a rock climbing wall, an obstacle course and a diving area. It is a lovely campus that is filled with trees and red clay brick walkways.

Wander around the campus and admire its stunning outdoor scenery and magnificent architecture. If you are a music, drama, comedy or dance lover, be sure to enjoy a show at the center.

Starting at the historic Boathouse by the Speed River (114 Gordon Street parking lot), we will discuss the original indigenous peoples of the area; the Boathouse, Lawn Bowling Club, and Royal City Park. Then, by carpooling, we will drive as a group to the second destination point focused on the oldest parts of the downtown, including two sites redesigned recently by GALA members.

Backdrops include historic architecture at the Armory, Train Station, City Hall, Market Square, Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, and finally, the oldest bar in Guelph, the Albion (49 Norfolk Street, Guelph) for a cold something and food, if desired. Luckily for you, Guelph has a vast array of restaurants that will satisfy the cravings of every kind of breakfast junkie.

As for the food, Vienna serves a fantastic array of breakfast items ranging from the classic eggs, hash browns, and bacon to a delicious pancake dish called“Saddlebags.” This appropriately titled dish includes two enormous pancakes with sausage and bacon stuffed inside them. Not only known for its breakfast, Cornerstone is a great place to go and enjoy some live music on a cool downtown night.

This restaurant is an excellent choice for breakfast- the menu offers daily specials made from fresh ingredients, fair portions, and delicious coffee straight from Toronto’s Kensington Market. For a vegetarian restaurant, the menu at Cornerstone is extremely dynamic and includes omelettes, freshly-spiced roasted potatoes, and sandwiches with gourmet ingredients that change daily.

The menu includes items such as a delicious breakfast burrito that will surely fill you up and Hues Ranchers, a traditional Mexican dish consisting of two eggs served on a bed of tortillas and black beans. With the Grain is a quaint breakfast joint located on Norwich Street that serves an incredibly healthy and delicious meal.
