The lower voltage will also benefit your incandescent bulbs, causing them to outlast their typical 1,000-hour life span. While dimming makes incandescent last longer, your halogen bulb may come to a premature end.
When a halogen bulb is dimmed down to 20%, the gases around filament begin to build up on the capsule glass instead. Then the bulb begins to operate as an incandescent, leaving the filament to overheat and burn out.
You’ll quickly find out if you have a non- dimmable CFL since the bulb won’t light up when you apply a lower voltage. However, before you start picking wall plates for your new dimmer switch, you need to check the ballast first.
Since LEDs use a small fraction of an incandescent’s normal wattage consumption, your dimmer switch may not register the load. That means your light may stay on without any perceivable dimming, flicker like its auditioning for a horror movie, or just shut off completely.
Occasionally, a dimmer switch will only be able to dim an LED to a certain percentage, like 30% of full light instead of the promised 10%. In fact, regardless of what type of lights you have, you should read the bulb and dimmer’s features before making a purchase.

Note: A very small amount of xenon gas is also used in some halogen bulbs to produce a whiter light and to help keep deposits off the glass tube. Xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) light bulbs are filled with xenon gas and use a stabilized arc of electricity to generate a whiter light source than is available from a standard halogen bulb.
This type of lighting system uses a ballast to initiate and maintain the proper bulb voltage during operation. Xenon lamp technology is currently the most advanced development in the field of motor vehicle light systems.
Xenon bulbs produce more than twice the light output of a modern H halogen bulb, although it only requires around 2/3 of the energy. Dangers are recognized more easily, especially those at the curb and shoulder areas, as well as, far ahead of the vehicle in the center of the road.
In poor weather conditions -- such as rain, fog or snow -- drivers also have much improved spatial vision, which means that the driver's ability to orient themselves is easier despite adverse conditions. Applications- Table Lamps, Floor Lamps, Ceiling Fixtures, Wall Sconces, Vanities, Recessed Cans, Track Lighting. Features & Benefits- Uniform dimming from 100-20%; Optimized electronics maximizes lamp life; Excellent high lumens/watt ratio; Designed to run at cooler operating temperature maximizing lamp life; Intelligent circuit design automatically turns bulb off at preset position for zero low-end flicker; Modifies cathode operation during dim mode which extends lamp life; End-of-life circuit design meets EURO IEC and new UL standard, 1993, 3rd Edition; Shuts bulb off automatically if it senses any lamp starting issues or end of life conditions. Designed for 600 watt slide or rotary dimmer switch. Replaces 60W. The higher the voltage, the more current will be pushed through a resistor connected across the points.
The volt specification of an incandescent lamp is the electrical “pressure” required to drive it at its designed point. Note, this is not a manufacturer guarantee of life, but an estimate based on typical average testing.
It is possible to define a “useful life” of a lamp based on practical considerations involving lumen depreciation and color shift. 3000 K COLOR TEMPERATURE A measure indicating the degree of “yellowness” or “blueness” of a white light source.
Yellowish-white (“warm”) sources, like incandescent lamps, have lower color temperatures in the 2700K-3000K range; white and bluish-white (“cool”) sources, such as cool white (4100K) and natural daylight (6000K), have higher color temperatures. 850 LUMENS A measure of the luminous flux or quantity of light emitted by a source.
The higher the CRY (based upon a 0-100 scale) the richer and more true colors generally appear. This TCP 4011430K Bulb is rated at 82 CRY color rendering index.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Melanie from Nice brightness for my under cabinet lights! I ordered these as replacements for a number of “puck lights” under my kitchen cabinets. The Xenon lights provide a nice level of brightness and I like that they appear much more white than yellow.
They usually last an adequate amount of time and I believe the longevity may have a relation with how exposed the lights are to shocks or vibrations. Rated 2 out of 5 by Paul from poor life Spanish received my order, replaced the two lamps that were bad and have now replaced them again, Down to the last two lamps (of six), They lasted only a couple of days.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Malibu from Volume G9 20W Xenon Light Bulbs I concur with another reviewer. These bulbs do not last very long, are very inconsistent in their life span and are expensive.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gerry from Quick deliveryExact bulbs I needed with superfast delivery! It was my first time needing replacements, so I was nervous I'd order the incorrect ones.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Told from It does the job, but I had problemsAlthough they were the same part number, these bulbs are a fraction of an inch longer and fatter than the ones that were supplied with the light into which I had to install them. For a second attempt I first bent the wire connectors very carefully and that way I could fit the bulb into the socket without breaking it.
Return trip to Home Depot for two more bulbs. BTW, in Canada, Home Depot was the only store that carried these bulbs and I bought the last four that they had in stock.
LED bulbs are about 1/4 inch longer than xenon bulbs so in the fixture you want to install them in has the extra clearance it would be fine. Lighting plays a fundamental role in people’s lives.
Accent Light Reading Nook Project Area Manufacturing This soft, yellowish light creates a cozy, relaxing feel best suited to living spaces and bathrooms.
Similar to soft white, but with a slightly warmer glow that closely resembles the look of candlelight. When it comes to purchasing a light bulb, you can choose the brightness, tone, and level of energy-efficiency.
Examine the bulb you're replacing for pertinent information, such as its brand name and wattage, to determine the requirements of the fixture. Having the right shape, size, and base type ensures the bulb will screw into your fixture properly.
If you can't identify the wattage on the bulb you’re replacing, check the fixture. Common residential fixtures, such as ceiling fans and overhead lights, are rated to work with a specific wattage.
Much more energy efficient than traditional lighting, LED bulbs feature a lifespan of 15-20 years and are recyclable, making them a great option for residential and commercial use. Often used in offices, workshops, and warehouses, fluorescent bulbs are ideal for many commercial uses, as they’re typically designed with a tube shape and are more energy efficient than incandescent bulbs.
Save on space without sacrificing powerful illumination with canopy lighting. Typically, used in parking garages, gas stations, and other commercial applications, canopy lights are resistant to tampering.
An excellent source of bright white light, floodlights are useful in many areas, including playgrounds, sports fields, house perimeters, and stadiums. A well-lit area increases the safety of any property, and energy efficient LED security lights require little maintenance yet add tremendous peace of mind.
