In 2015, the WashingtonRedskins lost to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round. The WashingtonRedskins have arguably been the most active NFL team to not make the playoffs in 2019, as they’ve made some monumental moves since the off season began for them in late December.
As more teams start to enter the off season with the NFL playoffs winnowing down, ESPN interviewed a number of executives in the league and asked them to make some predictions for the 2020 season. Maybe Washington’s remade training staff can entice Trent Williams to return and fortify the offensive line.
A laughable division presents the Redskins with a crazy opportunity to end the season. A loaded NFC eliminated the Redskins from the Wild Card weeks ago.
The division, however, is the worst in football, and frankly, does not deserve to even award a home playoff game to the victor. The Redskins went 2-0 against the Lions and the Panthers while the rest of the division found every which manner to lose, going 0-6.
Of everything that has to transpire, the biggest question mark is Washington marching into Green Bay and getting a victory. The Cowboys, while having one of the most talented rosters in the league, are massively inconsistent and continue to shoot themselves in the foot.
That leaves Washington ripe to take advantage of everyone else's demise by winning the division with a losing record. It's ludicrous that the season has gotten here, but the NFC East stinks worse than a dumpster on a hot summer day.
If you were hoping to see the Redskins in the NFC playoffs this year, well, you should've known after about three weeks of regular season action that they weren't going to come through. Three out of the four remaining teams in Washington's conference feature prominent guys who used to wear the Burgundy and Gold either on the field or on the sidelines.
Shanahan's built-up quite a team in San Fran, and he'll look to eliminate a QB he worked with for a couple of years early in the 2010s. Smith exploded for the Packers in his first go-round with the franchise, fully unlocking the potential he showed at times with Washington.
One way is to dismiss it, say fans of plenty of other organizations will see familiar faces this coming weekend as well, not care at all and close this story out with fury. The other way is to wonder if there's a connection between Cousins, Shanahan, Fleur and Smith excelling and reaching a rarefied part of the NFL schedule only after they've departed the Redskins.
Receive comprehensive coverage of your teams and stream Capitals and Wizards games easily from your device. The NFC East may not be the best division in football, but that’s partly because the Redskins are one of the worst teams heading into the 2020 campaign.
Washington is too much of a long shot to bet YES (+900), while the line of -1667 on NO doesn’t leave enough room for reward compared to the risk. Place your legal NFL bets in CO, IN, NJ and WV at Bet MGM.
Much of their 2020 season hinges on the play of QB Dwayne Haskins, who struggled as a rookie in 2019. The Redskins only won three games last year, but they added Ohio State DE Chase Young with their first-round pick (2nd overall), signed LB Thomas Davis and drafted RB Antonio Gibson (Memphis) in the third round, bringing some more explosiveness to the offense.
WR Terry Clarín is also a budding star and RB Debris Guide is finally healthy again. That being said, I’d wager on SIX WINS (+320) for Washington in 2020, just based on the expectation that Haskins will improve and the fact that there are some easier games on the schedule.
Gannett may earn revenue from audience referrals to betting services. The above results would put the Redskins alone in the final Wild Card spot in the NFC with an 8-8 record.
The biggest question mark is clearly Detroit pulling off a surprise upset in the Motor City in Week 16. Nevertheless, it is still very possible that the Redskins, who are on their fourth string quarterback, make the playoffs this season.
