Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that a recent pause during Phase Two has ended, which allows for indoor dining at restaurants to resume at 25% capacity (or no more than 250 people) and museums to reopen with no more than 250 people allowed per floor and no guided tours. The coronavirus pandemic has affected events, attractions and other businesses throughout the Washington, DC area.

Make sure to check out our list of reopened businesses and read below for more details on restaurants, attractions and museums, including helpful safety information. Current Travel Requirements The DC government currently requires visitors to test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of traveling (and to show results if asked by a business, hotel or restaurant); to avoid visiting if you are a close contact of a confirmed positive case; and to get tested within 3-5 days of arrival if you are visiting for more than three days.

The city already requires individuals to socially distance and wear face coverings. Read more up-to-date information about traveling to the city to ensure the health and safety of visitors.

While many in-person gatherings have been impacted, local businesses, museums and festivals are hosting virtual events, which we're tracking on weekdays and weekends. Employees and patrons should socially distance and wear face coverings at all times.

Food service cafés and retail are allowed to open in line with industry standards. Recreation centers, bowling alleys, climbing gyms, squash or racquetball clubs, skating rinks and skateboard parks may open with a 50-person capacity or at 50 percent capacity in Phase Two.

Access includes the playground, fitness area and tables, but note occupancy is limited, visitors are asked to sanitize hands upon entry of the playground and all organized activities require a permit. These venues can open if granted a waiver to ensure social distance measures, contact tracing and other safety protocols by Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HS EMA) to hold an arts, entertainment or cultural event.

Phase Two allows for personal services to open including hair and nail salons, massage and spas by appointment only and with strong safeguards and physical distancing in place. Barbershops and hair salons opened in Phase One with select services, Phase Two allows the reopening of tanning, tattoo, waxing, threading, electrolysis, cryotherapy, facial and other skin services and nail salons, requiring one client per employee, face coverings at all times and social distancing.

WHAT's enhanced cleaning measures include daily disinfecting of trains, buses and stations with mopping, wiping down high-touch surfaces or using electrostatic loggers.

Virtual, live, interactive and on-demand distance-learning programs continue at Ford's Theater's website. The museum grounds, including Temper Fidel is Memorial Park and the playground, will remain open.

Retail stores, including farmers markets, allowed up to 25% indoor capacity. Table size for outdoor dining is limited to a maximum of six (6) people and two (2) households.

Indoor receptions, wakes or similar gatherings remain prohibited. Indoor recreation and fitness for low-risk sports (dance, no-contact martial arts, gymnastics, climbing) are permitted for practice and training in groups of no more than five (5) athletes.

Appointment-based fitness/training is allowed for 45-minute maximum session with no more than one (1) customer/athlete per room or, for large facilities, per 500 soft. Indoor entertainment establishments such as aquariums, theaters, arenas, concert halls, gardens, museums, bowling alleys, trampoline facilities, wardrooms and event spaces are open for private rentals/tours of individual households up to six (6) people.

Outdoor entertainment establishments such as zoos, gardens, aquariums, theaters, stadiums, event spaces, arenas, concert venues and rodeos can be open for ticketed events with groups of up to ten (10) people from two (2) households. As the United States and Canada wrestle with the COVID-19 pandemic, states and provinces continually change restrictions on restaurant dining.

This state-by-state guide offers a status check on whether restaurants are allowed to be open for dining in (indoors and out), or whether delivery and takeout are still the norm. Keep in mind that local (county, city, and town) guidance may differ from the state, and that many restaurants may not reopen right away even if they are able.

It is not intended to provide every last detail regarding guidelines and restrictions; please refer to the government website of each state for specifics. In addition, please remember that even if a state has been given the green light for a category of businesses to reopen, individual businesses may choose to remain closed.

As such, please be sure to contact each business or site before visiting to ensure that it is open. As the United States begins to relax its shelter-in-place orders and some emerge from their homes, many are counting the days when we can get back out there and travel, even if it’s by car to a neighboring community or state.

But as we know, a very different landscape awaits out there than the one we left earlier this winter at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. There are things travelers must consider that we never did before, including social distancing and personal sanitization.

The big question is: Is it safe to travel in the United States? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is pretty clear in its stance.

It’s recommended that you stay home as much as possible, especially if your trip is not essential. Social distancing still needs to be practiced, especially if you are in a higher risk category or an older adult.

And you need to protect yourself and others by knowing how to prevent the virus from spreading. Perhaps the most hopeful advice comes from Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Quarantine Suggestions for New Visitors: No travel restrictions. Restaurants: In-restaurant dining open with safety guidelines.

Bars : Open with limited seating, six feet between tables, and subject to additional sanitation rules and guidelines. Retail Stores: Open at 50% capacity and strict social distancing protocol.

Campgrounds and Parks: Hunting, fishing, trail use, boating, and paddling are open. Most Alabama state parks, including campgrounds and associated facilities, are open with some exceptions.

Quarantine Suggestions for New Visitors: Visitors entering Alaska from another state or country must submit a travel declaration and self-isolation plan here and arrive with proof of a negative COVID-19 test or purchase a test upon arrival in Alaska and self-quarantine for 14 days. Some parts of Katmai, Kenai Fjords, Glacier, Kabul Valley, Lake Clark, and Denali National Parks remain closed.

Physically-distant dine-in service open ; face masks mandatory for serving staff and patrons. Bars in counties experiencing moderate transmission can operate at 50% occupancy if converted to restaurant service.

Californian residents are encouraged to avoid non-essential travel outside their region. Los Angeles County has instated a mandatory 10-day quarantine for anyone arriving from outside the Southern California region.

Hotels and Accommodations: Only open to support critical infrastructure. When a region has below 15% ICU capacity a three-week stay Stay-at-Home order is triggered.

In regions where the Stay at Home order is in effect, hotels can only be open for the purposes of COVID-19 mitigation. Channel Islands, Lassen Volcanic, Pinnacles, and Yosemite National Parks are open.

Death Valley, Sequoia and Kings Canyon, National Parks are open with some facility limitations or closures. Parts of Redwood and Joshua Tree National Parks are open.

Beaches: Most open, with protective measures in place. Quarantine Suggestions for New Visitors: No statewide travel restrictions.

Any visitors spending more than one night in Pit kin County must complete a traveler affidavit which includes a negative COVID-19 test that has been administered up to 72 hours prior to arrival. Retail Stores: Open with strict social distancing guidelines and best health practices.

Parts of Black Canyon of the Unison National Park, Mesa Verde, Rocky Mountain, and Great Sand Dunes National Parks are open. Quarantine Suggestions for New Visitors: Travelers from all states (except for neighboring states: New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island) must complete a travel form and self-quarantine for 10 days or provide a negative COVID-19 test.

Bars that provide counter service must be spaced six feet apart. Retail Stores: Large businesses (over 100,000 square feet) open at 20% capacity.

Hotels and Accommodations: Have not been ordered to close; more than half are open. Bars : Outdoor service open if food is served.

Chicago will be requiring visitors coming from states experiencing a surge in COVID-19 to self-quarantine for 14 days. Restaurants in Tier 1 regions can open for indoor service with capacity restrictions and social distancing guidelines.

Bars : Restaurants in most regions are open for outdoor service, takeout, and delivery only. Bars that serve food in Tier 1 regions can open for indoor service with capacity restrictions and social distancing guidelines.

Beaches: Lakefront parks west of Lake Shore Drive are open ; parks, beaches, trails, and facilities east of Lake Shore Drive remain closed. County Advisory Levels are tracked via a color-coded map.

As of January 11, all counties are in the orange or red tiers. Local officials in counties in the red and orange tiers may instate additional restrictions.

Restaurants in New Orleans are open for indoor dining at 25% capacity. Bars : Parishes with a 5% or lower positivity rate for two weeks may open bars at 25%.

Visitors who have tested negative for COVID-19 in the previous 72 hours will not have to self-quarantine. Campgrounds and Parks: State parks, historic sites, and campgrounds open to Maine residents and those who have met the 14-day quarantine requirement.

Parts of Acadia National Park are open, including carriage roads for pedestrian use. Restaurants in the city of Baltimore are open for takeout and delivery only.

Bars : Open at limited capacity if serving food. Retail Stores: Open at 50% capacity with safety precautions; curbside delivery and pickup still recommended.

Quarantine Suggestions for New Visitors: All visitors except essential workers must self-quarantine for fill out a Massachusetts Travel Form and 14 days or produce a negative COVID-19 test administered three days prior to your arrival in Massachusetts. Travelers should not visit the state if they exhibit symptoms of COVID-19.

All overnight lodging and shelters closed for the 2020 recreation season. Isle Royale National Park expected to remain closed all summer.

Quarantine Suggestions for New Visitors: No travel restrictions. Hotels and Accommodations: Open with minimal services; in-house amenities such as gyms, pools, spas, entertainment facilities, meeting rooms, and in-house restaurants remain closed.

Restaurants: Restaurants can open for indoor dining at 100% capacity with restrictions (staff and unseated customers must wear masks, parties must be seated six feet away from each other, no congregating in bar areas). Some state park campgrounds opening at 50% capacity to New Hampshire residents.

Beaches: Open to swimmers, walkers, and runners. Restaurants: Open for indoor dining at 25% capacity while following safety guidelines.

Microbreweries and brewpubs may open for takeout and delivery. Retail Stores: Open at 50% capacity while following safety guidelines.

White Sands National Park is temporarily closed. Essential workers and people from states contiguous with New York are exempt.

Out of state travelers can exempt themselves from the 10-day quarantine by taking a test three days prior to arrival in New York, quarantining for three days, take a second COVID-19 test, and if both tests come back negative that visitor can exit quarantine early. Bars : Open for outdoor service in several upstate regions.

Cuyahoga National Park open, with visitor center and some restrooms closed. Restaurants: Dining rooms are open subject to strict sanitation and social distancing measures.

Bars : Open at reduced capacity subject to strict sanitation and social distancing measures. Oregonians are encouraged to avoid non-essential reasons outside their region.
